Summary

"A witty rom-com reinvention … with deeply relatable insights on family pressure and growing up。” - Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka, authors of Always Never Yours and If I’m Being Honest

“An adorable debut that updates a classic romantic trope with a buzzy twist。" - Jenn Bennett, author of Alex, Approximately and Serious Moonlight

A fresh, irresistible rom-com from debut author Emma Lord about the chances we take, the paths life can lead us on, and how love can be found in the opposite place you expected。

Meet Pepper, swim team captain, chronic overachiever, and all-around perfectionist。 Her family may be falling apart, but their massive fast-food chain is booming — mainly thanks to Pepper, who is barely managing to juggle real life while secretly running Big League Burger’s massive Twitter account。

Enter Jack, class clown and constant thorn in Pepper’s side。 When he isn’t trying to duck out of his obscenely popular twin’s shadow, he’s busy working in his family’s deli。 His relationship with the business that holds his future might be love/hate, but when Big League Burger steals his grandma’s iconic grilled cheese recipe, he’ll do whatever it takes to take them down, one tweet at a time。

All’s fair in love and cheese — that is, until Pepper and Jack’s spat turns into a viral Twitter war。 Little do they know, while they’re publicly duking it out with snarky memes and retweet battles, they’re also falling for each other in real life — on an anonymous chat app Jack built。

As their relationship deepens and their online shenanigans escalate — people on the internet are shipping them?? — their battle gets more and more personal, until even these two rivals can’t ignore they were destined for the most unexpected, awkward, all-the-feels romance that neither of them expected。

This。 Book。 Was。 Amazing。I could not put this book down, it was so good。 I could literally feel the emotions of the characters, I was getting anxious and nervous, sad and happy every single thing was written perfectly。 It didn't feel as though (as with some other contemporary books) that the author was trying to hard to make it relatable to teenagers, or be super trendy, it just was。 It was relatable in almost every aspect。 This was hands down the best contemporary novel I've read full stop。 Exc This。 Book。 Was。 Amazing。I could not put this book down, it was so good。 I could literally feel the emotions of the characters, I was getting anxious and nervous, sad and happy every single thing was written perfectly。 It didn't feel as though (as with some other contemporary books) that the author was trying to hard to make it relatable to teenagers, or be super trendy, it just was。 It was relatable in almost every aspect。 This was hands down the best contemporary novel I've read full stop。 Excuse me while I go re-read it。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I wanted fluff, I got fluff。 This was sweet and adorable。 The main characters are very likable with genuine personalities and stresses - honestly really heavy stresses I don't know how they dealt with for so long before things broke - who have lovely chemistry with each other。From the description in the summary I expected the tropey A+ Girl and Total Jerk Guy, but they got off that road really quick。 Jack is a prankster but not one that harms people or goes too far without acknowledging he's mes I wanted fluff, I got fluff。 This was sweet and adorable。 The main characters are very likable with genuine personalities and stresses - honestly really heavy stresses I don't know how they dealt with for so long before things broke - who have lovely chemistry with each other。From the description in the summary I expected the tropey A+ Girl and Total Jerk Guy, but they got off that road really quick。 Jack is a prankster but not one that harms people or goes too far without acknowledging he's messed up, and Pepper is a highly stressed academic star but she's not an unfeeling android。 In fact they have those impressions of each other but clearly got over them fast even if they weren't hanging out level friendly。 Their relationship develops nicely over time and I really enjoyed it happen。I saw a criticism that there were too many layers going on: Pepper/Jack, the Bluebird/Wolf anonymous app convos, the Twitter war。 That's a totally valid crit, but it's not something that bothered me while reading。 The app falls to the side pretty often while the kids are literally too distracted to sign in but is still a significant part of their life。 Twitter is canonically Too Much for both of them but is treated like that in story - neither want to be in the damn war - and most of the story is told just with the two of them。 I thought it was handled well。 And truly enjoyed myself。Now for big Spoilers:A star was knocked off from my score because I absolutely goddamn hate Pepper's mother and Jack's father。Pep's mom is garbage。 She's essentially the CEO of Wendy's and after stealing the recipe of a small one shop local business- and she did steal it, she admits it - starts a whole viral Corporate Twitter War。。。 which she expects her 17 year old still in high school daughter to handle on top of her school work, college admissions, swim team captain duties, and essentially living alone cause she's barely home。 While she owns up in the end and allows Pepper to leave the twitter campaign behind it's not until after she blames a Corporate Twitter Account's issues on her daughter。 Oh, and then she finds out she has one friend and tells her never to speak to him again cause obviously he's the reason she's failing her classes。 Failing is getting a B, by the way。 The icing on the shit cake is the woman only realizes she did anything bad when her poor daughter is outed to the world and made into a meme, so if anyone tries to look her up online all they get is crap like that。Jack's dad didn't seem as bad at first, he was obviously favoring one twin son over the other and expecting Jack to run the family business all while using said family business as a punishment for him acting out。 I could have excused him not knowing how Jack felt cause Jack doesn't talk about it, but he lost it at his kid over Twitter too for being rightfully upset that a Wendy's level company stole his grandma's recipes。 Yea, turns out that Jack's dad used to date Pep's mom at like 18 and not only did he dump her over phone cause he met someone else (Jack's mom) but he did so while stealing her dessert recipes, some sandwich recipes, and her DESIGNS FOR A CAFE。 Pep's mom was literally lining up investors for opening her own resturant and when they saw this deli with hers recipes, ideas, even her color schemes, they said fuck it and she lost everything。 Sure it worked out in the end for her, but seriously? He's still selling her stolen recipes。Seriously those parents SUCK。 。。。more

The characters were also greatly developed and so loveable。 Jack’s POV was just so funny that I had sometimes found myself laughing out loud。 Normally, I would take half a star off for references but because this story did revolve around twitter and the internet, the references weren’t as cringey and flowed with the story nicely。 But there was one other thing。 In the first half of the book I wished we could see more of their messages on Weazel so that we could really witness how their secret relationship built。 In the end, I really enjoyed Tweet Cute and I highly recommend it! 。。。more

SO cute。 Like really, really cute。 Definitely a major gossip girl feel, especially with the New York setting - but modernized and more tame。 It’s a LITTLE cheesy (pun intended) but it didn’t bug me that much。 Pepper and Jack are adorable。 The Twitter elements are fun and well done。 A cute lil’ teen romance read!

I’m a pile of melted cheese。 So cute。 Cheesy and messy, just like a grilled cheese 🧀 Messy enough not to a basic YA romance novel and the sequence of events were overly predictable!

i loved it! it was so warm & comforting, the kinda book you could spend hours curled up in bed reading <3

Light and enjoyable。 I was rooting for Pepper/Jack pretty much the whole time。 I loved the way food was integrated into the story。 I plan to try several of the recipes at some point, especially the central grilled cheese that starts the whole thing。

"How can a person even know who they are if they don’t know what they want?"Let me preface this review by saying I am not a fan of social media, most especially Twitter。 So the idea of reading a novel based on a Twitter war seemed like a big mistake but I surprisingly loved every minute of this! "The issue isn’t so much what I want to be, but whether or not I can be it without hurting everyone else in the process。"Tweet Cute is so much more than a book about a Twitter war。 It's a super sweet YA romance, perhaps a little cheesy at times (pun intended) but so enjoyable nonetheless。 At its heart, it's a coming of age story about two teens trying to find themselves in the big city while figuring out their personal and professional goals。 "I’ve just assumed there were certain directions my life was going to take。 The safe kind。 The kind everyone else was taking, and I plowed through with a vengeance。 It hasn’t been easy, but it hasn’t been brave either。 The idea of actually straying from it is either thrilling or terrifying, the two feelings swallowing each other and spitting each other back out before I can settle on one。"Pepper Evans, whose family started the Big League Burger franchise empire, and Jack Caldwell, who grew up part of local deli Girl Cheesing, battle it out on Twitter as they try to make their way through teenage life in NYC。 Meanwhile, I have a sudden craving for grilled cheese and kitchen sink macaroons!Pepper is a dessert genius and comes up with such mouthwatering recipe ideas that will make you wish you could enjoy them while you're reading。 She's quite ambitious, focusing on her grades and college applications along with her swim team co-captain responsibilities。 Meanwhile, her arch nemesis Jack, skilled at creating apps in his free time not spent at school or dive team practice, has created an anonymous chat forum for students at his school。 The app creates a safe place for students and provides the beginning of a friendship between Pepper and Jack, anonymously communicating as Bluebird and Wolf。 But insecurities start to form。 "How is it I can fire off a stupid text to a guy I literally call Wolf without thinking twice, but when I’m actually confronted with a human being I know, my brain decides to take a hike?" [Pepper]"But if I’ve learned one thing from occasionally being too impulsive for my own good, it’s that once you open a door like that, you don’t get to close it again。 Right now, Bluebird is nobody and everybody at once—but right now, Bluebird likes me。 And I’m worried that in changing that first bit, the second one might change too。" [Jack]The teenage angst was palpable leading to the most adorable version of a slow burn, enemies to lovers romance。 I had so much fun reading the snarky banter between Pepper and Jack。 I also loved exploring their respective relationships with their parents and siblings and could identify with the pressures of academic success, the need to be perfect and the perception of feeling less than。 "It hurts to remember, but sometimes I have to, or I’ll forget the way we used to be all together。 Like the blondies themselves—the bitter and the sweet。"The writing deserves praise as well, especially as a debut。 Every secondary character added something special to the overall story。 And I just adored Grandma Belly and her delectable grilled cheese creation! If you're looking for a YA novel to read, I highly suggest adding this one to your list! "It’s weird, how you have no idea how far you’ve come until suddenly you can’t find the way back。"** 4。5 stars rounded to 5 for Goodreads ** 。。。more
